Third-quarter contract prices for molten sulfur deliveries into Tampa, Florida, have been settled at a record high of $705/long ton (lt) delivered. Spot prices are well over $1,000/long ton. Talk of high sulfur prices and the resulting weak phosphate fertilizer availability was the buzz at the Southwestern Fertilizer Conference in New Orleans this week, as producers struggle to make phosphate fertilizers affordable for American farmers. To bring price stability to the market, Travertine is working with various phosphate industry partners to provide a circular electrochemical process that recycles sulfur waste into sulfuric acid for phosphates production.
